Well, today was a pretty “blah” day. I forced myself to sleep in until about like 10:30 or something, although most of that time I was only half-asleep. I didn’t sleep too well, and I’m not quite sure why. I suppose I was pretty stressed out last night. It was horribly busy the entire night at work last night and we got out about 20 minutes later than we were supposed to. And I even closed 15 minutes early.
But anyways, I decided that this job is putting way too much stress on me, especially during exam time. So last night and this morning, I decided to quit my job. I’m going to put in my two weeks’ notice today when I go into work. And then, two weeks from now, I will have that part of my life gone and done with. It’s going to be an incredible release of pressure, especially with all the new stuff I have to remember with this new contest thing we have going on. Everything’s just been piling up lately. Oh well. My youth retreat starts in 6 days. That’s going to feel just amazing, being able to relax and not think about school or work at all. Not too long to go, nope, not long at all.
But now I must be getting ready for work, so I have to go – this is my final two weeks and I had better make them good.…
Today’s been a strange day. It was the first day of exams, so we only had one exam today – English, in the afternoon. I planned to sleep in for a while, but I couldn’t, so I just got up at about 8:30 or so. Instead of studying like any good boy should do before an exam, I decided I’d rather learn the bass part for a couple songs. So I went downstairs and learned Time Will Change Your Heart by Blindside (good song) and Generation Lost by Rise Against (another good song). It was pretty cool.
Anyways, before my dad came home to pick me up to go to school, I ate some chocolate chip waffles. It was the only thing I could find to eat other than the plate of food in the fridge that I’m supposed to have for supper – in a few minutes actually. My mom is cool like that. She usually puts some food on a plate and puts it in the fridge for me if I have to work.
But yeah. I was kind of distracted last night and today. My friend was telling me about her friend that’s going through some hard times, so she was pretty worried about that. I promised to pray for her, and pray I did. I kept reminding myself to stop and pray about it, so I’d do that. So going into the exam, I had to force myself to keep focused so I would get it…Continue Reading
I figure since I’m going into work tonight, I probably won’t have much of a chance to blog afterwards, so I might as well do it now. I was originally working from 5-9, but Cheryl (the boss’s wife) called me at about 9:00 AM – waking me out of a restless half-conscious sleep – and asked if I could come in early, for 3:30. I agreed, and then just got up since there was no point in going back to bed after getting up to answer the phone. I’m pretty sure I know why they called me in early. Kim was supposed to work some wierd shift today, but on Thursday she said she might call in sick, since she wasn’t feeling well and it was like a 3-hour shift anyways. Oh well, if it helps her out, that’s great, and it’ll give me the cash for an extra hour and a half of work. It’s not much, but money isn’t my main concern anyways.
So anyways, the roads are pretty bad, and we’re going to have leave early to get to work on time. I doubt Paul could really get mad for me being a few minutes late, considering he can look outside and see the weather, and also because I’m doing him a favour by coming in early to help his other employees out. I mean, you can’t yell at someone who just agreed to help you. And besides, I’m on his good side. Anyway, since we’re going…Continue Reading
Welcome to another Friday morning! I’ll likely blog again after school today, but I just had to write this down. Last night I worked from 5-9, and at about 8:30, the power decided to go out. Uh-oh. Apparently there was a car accident somewhere near Powerline and Balmoral, and a hydro pole was knocked down, so a whole bunch of the North end didn’t have power – including the plaza that we were in.
Fortunately, it wasn’t too bad. There were no customers in the store at the time, and we were able to lock the doors before any came in. It was Kim, Kyle, and myself working, and we were a little unsure about what to do with the food. After all, the fridges weren’t working, and food might go bad during the night. So we called Paul (the boss) and asked him what to do. He just told us to wrap up all the bread and close down the store – easier said than done in the dark – and to try and keep the fridges closed as much as possible. Now, I must thank government regulations about emergency lighting, because it meant that most of the store was still lit up partially at least. We were able to start putting everything away without too much difficulty. It was only difficult when Kyle had to use the washroom and there was no light. We had to give him the flashlight.
The thing that I really found creepy was…Continue Reading
Yet again, I have nothing to post here. And yet, I am drawn here for another day, like a moth to a flame, or cream cheese to a bagel. That last simile was courtesy of the herb and cheese bagel with cream cheese that I’m eating right now – at this very minute. Except that as you’re reading this, I’ll probably be done, unless you’re reading it as I’m typing it, which is kind of freaky.
So anyways, on to bigger and better things. Today I got to sleep in on Sunday until like 9:00 AM, which is quite strange. It almost felt like having a second Saturday, which is always a great feeling to have. Anyways, I got to sleep in and skip church because I had to work today. I didn’t feel like getting up early to have breakfast with my parents, so I slept in and then headed off to work for 10:30 AM. It was horribly, horribly slow. For most of the time, Sarah and I just talked about movies and music and stuff, because there was no one in the store. Most of our business came from one person, who came in and ordered five large subs and two regular ones, coming in at over $70 of stuff. It was crazy. My jaw dropped when he started off saying that he wanted five large subs. I didn’t think I had heard him correctly. The way I figure it, he was likely buying for people wherever…Continue Reading
Well, I had a great day. I worked for 6 1/2 hours and that’s about it. Luckily, my job never requires me to be there earlier than 10:30, so I got to sort of sleep in until 9 today. Because I’m sleeping in the basement right now, all I’ve got is this really old clock with this alarm thing on it. It sounds like those school bells or fire alarms that ring a bell. So I woke up to that this morning. I set it for 9, and so it gracefully woke me up at 8:45 for some strange reason. Either I didn’t have it set right or it’s just stupid. I mean, what kind of clock do you have to wind up these days? It’s obviously crap.
Anyways, work was pretty slow today. I was working 10:30-5, and Sarah was working 10:30-2, with Kyle coming in for 12:30-5. At 4:00 Cheri came in as well; she usually works days, but I think she asked for more hours or something. But yeah. Kyle kept making stupid excuses like, “Oh boy, do you hear those noises in the back alleyway? I should go investigate. I’ll bring my lighter too, just in case I have to defend myself.” I’m just like, “Kyle, just ask to go have a smoke and get it over with. Jeez.” I see right through his excuses. Anyways, he also went next door to the convenient store and bought some crossword lottery tickets. He gave me one and…Continue Reading
Today I woke up and was completely light-headed and dizzy. While some might think that this might happen every day, as I am a person with no brain, I get used to the feeling after a while. This time it was even worse. I stood up and nearly fell over, and I had trouble walking and coordinating my feet. It felt like I had a headache, but at the same time I didn’t have a headache. It was strange.
After breakfast and a shower, things were a little more normal. I just had a regular old headache that kept throbbing my brain (or lack thereof) and being the general pain that headaches usually are. I still have a headache as I’m writing this; in fact, it hasn’t completely left for about a week now. I went to church and basically just zoned out completely. This wasn’t done on purpose, but any concentration either was painful or next to impossible.
So, now here I am right before lunch, writing this blog entry. After lunch, I have to go get ready for work and then spend four and a quarter hours there. Thankfully, my cough has, for the most part, gone away thanks to the Nyquil I took last night (which also put me out like a light – another thing for which I’m grateful). I made the decision this morning to go to work just because, even though I’m not 100% better, I’m still on the way there and I’m not…Continue Reading
