Income and Inequality

I’m a data nerd. I accept that. I love taking a look at numbers and seeing what they tell me. But like any good data analysis, it’s best to have a purpose for doing it. So today I’d like to discuss a bit of analysis that I did regarding income and inequality, a topic which I think has some clear importance for people around the world.Continue Reading

Mildly Interesting (But Not Really)

There’s not much to say today, so I’ll keep this short. After my contemplative exploits of last night, nothing significant happened, so there’s no need to expand on yesterday. Today I had to get up early to drive my mom to work, so that I could have the car for today. Using it, I first went to North Park to pick up my timetable for next year. Right now, for both semesters I have a spare first period. That’s not exactly what I’d like – I’d rather have it last period – but at least it wasn’t in the middle of the day. As it stands now, I don’t have to come into school until 10:30 or something, which is pretty sweet. Unfortunately, the Grade 12 Physics course that I wanted wasn’t on there. That means they either missed it, or I didn’t get into it. So now I have to wait until the end of August in order to try and correct it. That was fairly frustrating, but perhaps I can still pick it up.

After picking up my timetable, I headed over to my bank to do a few things there. First of all, I wanted to change my savings account into a chequing account – the main reason for that would be so I could write cheques to tithe what I earn. I found out, though, that the savings account I have allows me to order cheques anyways, so there’s no point in even switching it. I…Continue Reading

Movies, Personal · · 4 comments

I’m pretty sure last night turned out nothing like what I expected. It was very messed up. I got a phone call from Steph and Melissa, and because it was raining, they changed their mind about going to Port Dover. Phew. That meant I didn’t have to ask my parents for the car – my dad ended up not coming home with it until just before 7:00 PM anyways. So instead, they decided to go see a movie. Out we went – Josh, Zeth, Melissa, Steph, Kristin, and Bethany – to go see “Kicking and Screaming.” It was a pretty good movie, although for a Will Ferrell movie, it had way too much plot to it. It was still his kind of movie though, considering how loud and obnoxious he got to be. I definitely enjoyed the movie, although it was disappointing for the $25 I paid for it.

Why $25? Well, I paid $15 for tickets for Bethany and myself. She didn’t have any money, so with me being the nice guy I am, I paid for her. I wasn’t happy about it, but I still did it. Then, about halfway through the movie, Melissa turns to me and says, “Hey, you should go get some popcorn.” I basically laughed in her face and told her to get some herself. But of course, she didn’t have any money with her since she had gotten free passes from Zeth – since he works at the theatre. I kept telling her…Continue Reading

Banquet and Quizno’s

Well, I had fully intended to write up my entry after the B.C.C. Banquet last night, but seeing as that went from 6:30 to about 11:00, I decided I’d rather not. It was a very nice banquet, just way too long. We should have definitely started earlier, and also perhaps cut down on the number of people speaking or something.

Anyways, I’ll try and keep this short. Yesterday I also took the car and headed over to Quizno’s to hang out with Kim, Larissa, and Kylie, who were working there. They were fairly busy, so I tried not to bother them, but I got a Steakhouse Beef Dip and the combo and sat and ate it. With the combo I also got a scratch card for this Real Deal thing they have going on, and I won a free regular drink! Yay! Cheap Quizno’s won’t even hand out large drinks for winning! That was exciting. So yeah, I hung out with them, laughed at them a bit for having to work, and even wiped down the tables for them. I also found out I had a paycheck in the back, which totally surprised me since I thought I had already gotten my last paycheck. It was like getting free money – $200 worth of free money. Not bad if I do say so myself. That was definitely a bonus to an already pretty good day.…

Last night was pretty cool. A couple days ago, Vince called me and we decided to hang out yesterday and go see the movie Constantine. That was cool, until I remembered that I had told Bethany I’d go over to her house for youth that night. Whoops. Oh well, I made the best of it.

I first called Vince and asked if he wanted to come to Bethany’s house. He thought that was alright, and we decided to go see the later showing at 9:40 PM so we could hang out at her house for a while. I then went upstairs and asked my dad if I could have the car to go to the Tozer’s house and then to a movie with Vince. He thought that was fine, but then I had to ask the bigger of the two questions, “Could I drive Vince there so his parents don’t have to come all the way over to the Tozer’s house to drive him there separately?” My dad finally relented after all this time and let me drive someone else around that wasn’t a family member.

That’s not to say that I haven’t already done that. I’ve driven Jordan, Angelie, and Kristy around a few times, just because there was no other way to do things, really. I mean, there’s no point in me driving home alone after youth and making the Tozer’s drive across the city to drop Kristy off at her house when she lives like just a…Continue Reading

I like numbers. I don’t really know why, but I always have had a specialty in dealing with numbers. I guess it just comes naturally to me, I don’t know. But anyways, since money is dealt with in numbers, I also like dealing with money. So yesterday and today (off and on, not the whole day of course) I’ve been figuring out how much money I have, how much I’ve spent, and on what. I’ve got some figures that I just feel like sharing, so I will. First off, I work at Quizno’s which pays once every two weeks (I will refer to it as bi-weekly, even though that means twice a week, but it’s much easier to say). I’ve been working there for just over three months now, so that gives a good rough guide to base my numbers on. Actually, if you want to get technical, my first and my latest paychecks were three months and six days apart, but it’s close enough. Oh yeah, and that adds up to eight paychecks once every two weeks, with the latest being October 29th. I actually just got one today but I didn’t include that since that would just screw everything up. ANYWAYS.

So here we go. In three months I’ve made $1332.63 net – that’s with deductions already removed. I’ve worked 186.75 hours, so that works out to an average of $166.58 and 23.34h bi-weekly, or $444.21 and 62.25h monthly. Not bad I suppose; it’s not what a brain…Continue Reading
