Boredom, Friendships, Etc.

Miscellaneous, Work · · 2 comments

Well, let me give a short recounting of last night. I went to work, had about the longest shift I’ve ever worked, and then came home. Well, okay, that’s not exactly how it went, but that’s the main idea. I’ve worked longer before, but this seemed so long and boring since it just wasn’t busy. I’m not sure why it wasn’t busy on a Friday night, but I guess it’s because the theatre really sucks compared to Famous Players or something like that. At one point, just before I left, we had four people cleaning theatres – two people were supposed to be doing it, and the other two just really had nothing else to do, so they helped out. While cleaning one theatre, I found an unopened can of Diet Coke with Lime in one of the cupholders. I claimed it as my spoils of war and took it home with me. I also found a toonie on the ground. I felt pretty special after that. Talk about a lucky night!

During the boring stages of work (in other words, the times when the movies were playing and there was nothing to do), I got a chance to talk to some of the people working at concession. Now, on one of my other shifts, I had been talking to Eric, and he had pointed out one of the people there and asked me if I thought she was hot. Being like any red-blooded male, I said yes, and then…Continue Reading

Parties, Parks, and Plans

Yesterday was pretty cool. It was a lot better than I had expected it to be, anyways. I slept in as late as I could, and then got up, hoping that someone would call me to do something with me. Since I worked Friday and today, I was hoping yesterday that someone would want to do something with me so I could actually do it and not have to say, “Sorry, I have to work.”

Lunch rolled around, and no one had phoned. By this time, I had remembered that Melissa and her friend Lisa had told me they were doing something with Jake and me. I figured that they would have phoned me up by that time, though. Eventually, around 2:00 PM, I decided I might as well call Melissa and at least see what was going on there, so if nothing was happening, I could do something else. We ended up talking for about an hour, mostly going back and forth about saying how bored we were and trying to come up with something to do. Jake got off work at 9:00 PM, so the plans that Melissa and Lisa had were basically off, at least until then. Anyways, she suggested that we phone people up and have them over at my house since no one ever comes to my house. I told her that there was a good reason for that – there was nothing to do at my house. The last time people were over, they…Continue Reading

Friends, Family, and Feeling Fancy

It’s a strange feeling having friends. I mean, I’ve always had friends, but it’s a strange feeling having friends who actually want to spend time with you. I know that sounds kind of stupid, but when most of your life you’ve only had “school friends” who will talk to you all week at school and then act like you don’t exist once the weekend comes, it’s certainly good to have a change. I remember a couple years ago, I would perhaps get one phone call a month at most. Now there seems to be more phone calls for me than for anyone else in my family. Yes, I know, I’m a stud. Now get back in line to get your autographs.

Yesterday around lunchtime, Jeff called me to see if I wanted to do something. Right before he phoned, I had just popped a bagel into the toaster and was engaged in a process of complaining at how little cream cheese was left in the container. A bagel just isn’t a bagel without cream cheese, and the fact that I was going to have to go sparingly with it just didn’t seem morally right to me – nor tasty, either. Anyways, I was sulking over my horrible plight in life when Jeff called me up. He suggested that we get a bunch of people together and then go to Mohawk Park. After getting food and eating it there, we could play frisbee or whatever. That sounded like a good idea…Continue Reading

Contests, Cineplex, and Candypants

Well, I forgot all about posting something yesterday. It’s not like I had anything really exciting to talk about anyways, so it totally slipped my mind. Today I have more interesting stuff to write down, but first, I have to talk about something I was meaning to talk about yesterday. It’s a great idea that I just came up with, although it’s a little late. It’s in honour of my 300th post, and even though this entry is my 303rd, I figure it couldn’t hurt. What is it I have to talk about? Well, it’s a contest! Why? Well, why not?

Basically, it goes like this. Somewhere in amongst the pages of this blog, I have hidden this phrase: “(If you’re reading this, you win!)” It’s written exactly like that, and no, the one in this paragraph doesn’t count. Now, because there’s about nine months’ worth of almost-daily posts, I’m going to make it a bit easier for you all. It’s hidden within the past five months (not including August, so that’s March-July). To your right is the list of archives by month, so if you like, you can get started right now!

But for those of you who don’t just do stupid, needless searching without a reward, let me tell you a bit about that. The winner of this contest (meaning the first person to come back to this entry and post a comment saying that they’ve found it, and where they found it – the URL of it,…Continue Reading

Well, I don’t have much to talk about today, so I’ll keep it short. Last night was pretty fun. I went to youth, and it was pretty awesome. Meagan was back from Scotland, so she told us all about her missions trip there and such, squeezing a thirty minute, five point sermon into about ten minutes. Afterwards, a bunch of us went to Tim Hortons, and we sat there and did nothing until we figured out something else to do. Kristin, Michelle, and Bethany wanted to walk to Michelle’s house, so they left, leaving Steph, Kristy, Jonathan, and me at Tim Hortons to drive over whenever we felt like it. We walked over to Zehrs first, though, and picked up the pictures that Steph and Kristy were getting copied. They must have about ten million pictures by now, but I guess they need them.

After that, we went back to my car, and Jonathan left in his van to go home so he could get up at the crack of dawn to go to his job that he has roofing houses. He could pass for a Mexican these days with the tan that he has. But anyways, I drove Steph and Kristy to Kristy’s house so they could get some stuff, and then found out that they needed even more photos copied or something. That put the total up to ten million, six hundred thousand and thirty-three, but whatever. I drove them over to the other Zehrs at the Brantford…Continue Reading

Interviews and Card Tricks

I’ll keep today’s entry short, because I really don’t have much to say. Not much happened yesterday, except that I finally got ahold of one of the supervisors at Sears. I told him the situation and how the other lady that had called me was interested in setting up an interview with me. He said, “Alright then, well how about an interview tomorrow…at 7:00?” My first instinct was to say no. I usually go to youth at Central on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM, and I’m not too big on missing out on that. But then I thought, “Well, I don’t know, I might as well. It’s easier than making him try to find another day.” So I said yes.

The more I thought about it, the more I thought that maybe this wasn’t such a series of random events. Here I was, unable to get ahold of anyone from the places who called me. I got a phone call from Sears, and then when I called back the next day, I couldn’t get ahold of the lady. The next day, I phoned again, and her voicemail said she was away on vacation until August 9th, giving the extension of a couple other supervisors as well. So I tried the one that seemed most likely of the two to cover for this lady while she was gone, and tried getting ahold of him – no luck. Then, yesterday, I got through and finally got an interview – for the next day.…Continue Reading

The Roller Coaster Day

Well, I must say that yesterday was certainly a day of ups and downs. Soon after posting yesterday’s entry, Steph phoned me up and provided the means of distraction that I needed. She told me that we were going to go to Apps Mill – soon after, Josh, who was also there, decided that he didn’t want to go since he had to work “soon.” Of course, it would still have given us a couple hours there, but he was whiny, so Steph told me just to come over to Kristy’s house and we’d figure something out for what to do after Josh left for work. We watched Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, then Josh left, and we decided – well, they decided – to go hang out at Wal-Mart for a while until Zeth got off from work.

I suppose I probably wasn’t all that fun to be around yesterday. With the whole situation going on yesterday, I was not in a good mood, and after getting up early to cut the grass, I was grumpy and sore. I just kind of followed Kristy and Steph around Wal-Mart making sarcastic comments about whatever they looked at. I soon realized that I really wasn’t having fun at all with this, and was probably ruining their fun as well, so I tried to shut up, but I don’t think it worked too well. Soon I didn’t say much, and I think they likely appreciated that more than my sarcasm. Anyways, soon before…Continue Reading
