Yesterday was quite disappointing. Work was pretty boring, since it was an afternoon shift, so there weren’t very many people there. Afterwards, I called up Jeff to see if he wanted to do something. He did, so I started calling other people as well. The only people that could actually come were Angelie and Dave. Eventually we figured out that we’d go to Jeff’s house and hang out in his garage – since it has a TV and card table and such in there. Angelie ended up not going because she would be the only girl there. Pphh. I don’t see how that makes a difference, really. I mean, I hang out with all girls sometimes, and other than the fact that they get hyper and annoying, I don’t mind it. At least when they do that, I can laugh at them, so I still have a fun time being entertained at other people being idiots. But whatever. Angelie skipped out on us, so it was just going to be Jeff, Dave, and me there.
I got to Jeff’s house, and he told me that Dave had flaked out too. Apparently he hadn’t actually asked his parents to go, and they wanted him to stay home or something. So it was just Jeff and me. That wasn’t too bad; I mean, I’ve hung out with him before and had some fun. We played Tony Hawk for a while, and then another game called Flat Out, where you drive a car…Continue Reading
Last night was quite the eventful night. I went to work at 6:30 PM, and was introduced to the concession. Yes, I’m being trained to get popcorn, spit in drinks, and the whole deal. It was quite exciting. Well, I guess it wasn’t that exciting, but I’ll say it is just to make the whole night that I’ll describe for you just that much more interesting.
I signed in on my cash register thing first of all, after choosing a six-digit number to use as my login. The registers there are much more ancient than the one at Quizno’s. You see, Quizno’s had one of those touch-screen registers, where it was essentially a computer. These things at the theatre are of the more archaic push-button things, where sometimes it takes forty-three metric tonnes of pressure per square inch just to make the button work. Don’t ask me how I measured it (I didn’t). At first, Nikki set me to work getting orders for people. She showed me the sizes of drinks, and also the size of popcorn bags. Then she took orders while I got them all ready. Basically, it’s easiest to do the drinks first, since you can just set them there and they’ll fill up. Then popcorn comes next. The scoops to pick up the popcorn are really annoying, because they’re made for right-handed people. As I began to scoop out popcorn, I thought about just how much better life would be if left-handed people were in the…Continue Reading
Well, let me give a short recounting of last night. I went to work, had about the longest shift I’ve ever worked, and then came home. Well, okay, that’s not exactly how it went, but that’s the main idea. I’ve worked longer before, but this seemed so long and boring since it just wasn’t busy. I’m not sure why it wasn’t busy on a Friday night, but I guess it’s because the theatre really sucks compared to Famous Players or something like that. At one point, just before I left, we had four people cleaning theatres – two people were supposed to be doing it, and the other two just really had nothing else to do, so they helped out. While cleaning one theatre, I found an unopened can of Diet Coke with Lime in one of the cupholders. I claimed it as my spoils of war and took it home with me. I also found a toonie on the ground. I felt pretty special after that. Talk about a lucky night!
During the boring stages of work (in other words, the times when the movies were playing and there was nothing to do), I got a chance to talk to some of the people working at concession. Now, on one of my other shifts, I had been talking to Eric, and he had pointed out one of the people there and asked me if I thought she was hot. Being like any red-blooded male, I said yes, and then…Continue Reading
Yesterday was pretty cool. In the afternoon, Jeff called me up and asked if I wanted to do something. Since I worked Sunday and today, I figured that yesterday was the sandwich day that I’d have to fill in with something good. After all, no one eats a sandwich just for the bread. So I said sure, and he came and picked me up. We then went and picked up Melissa, then drove over to Angelie’s house and picked her up as well. Jeff’s plan was to go go-karting at Ben-Mar, so off we went.
When we got there, it wasn’t raining, but you could tell that it had been raining quite recently. The go-karts were closed, but Jeff figured that they’d likely open them up in about half an hour or so once the track dried up. So we went and sat in Johnny-be-Good for a while, then went back to check again. They were still closed, so I guess they just decided to keep it closed for the entire day or something. So instead, we played a round of mini-golf. Jeff beat me by one stroke to get first place, so I didn’t do too badly, I suppose. Afterwards, we headed to Tim Hortons so Angelie could get a cinnamon roll, and then we headed home because people wanted to be home for supper at their own houses. We decided to reconvene at 7:30 PM with a movie or something. And now I’ve completely lost track of what…Continue Reading
Yesterday was a bit of an up-and-down day. Writing yesterday’s entry put me in sort of a sour mood, and so as I got ready for work, I just offered up a prayer that God would help me set that aside as I worked to not let my bad mood influence my attitude there. I had to check the bus schedules and such to find out which bus went where at what time, and so I found out that the 12:00 bus would get me to the Brantford Mall at about 12:07. I considered taking that one, but since I started work at 12:15, I didn’t want to take the chance that the bus would be slow like it sometimes is. So I took the 11:30 bus instead, and got there with about half an hour to spare before having to work. That was okay. I just went into Wal-mart for a little while and looked in the electronics section. Killing time is really the only time you’ll ever catch me “shopping” without buying anything – unless you count not being able to find what I’m looking for, but that’s different.
At about noon, I walked over to Cineplex and went upstairs to change and such. I had my uniform in a backpack, so I got ready and made myself look amazing before going back downstairs. I still had a little bit of time before I started, so I went in and wrote down my hours for next week. Then…Continue Reading
Well, I’ve missed two days this time. It completely slipped my mind on Tuesday, mainly because I had absolutely nothing to write about. Nothing interesting happened the night before, and since I was working from 5:45 PM – 12:00 midnight, I couldn’t exactly write anything then. Yesterday I slept in until about 10:30, then got occupied and forgot completely about blogging. Meh. I’ll just quickly talk about the past three days – it shouldn’t take too long. I’ll try and keep it short.
First off, Tuesday night was interesting. Seeing as it was my first shift at Cineplex, I was a little nervous. It was mainly because I barely knew what to do, so I really had no idea what to prepare for. It didn’t turn out to be too bad. Nikki was there showing me what to do for most of the night, and as the night went on it got easier as I found out that my job was fairly routine and monotonous. Basically, I rip tickets before the movies start. And as they start, I have to go around and close the doors and such. Once the movies are in, I basically check all of them every half hour, along with the bathrooms and arcade room. It’s a little hectic when the movies are starting, but once that’s over, there’s suddenly nothing to do really. Then, as the movies get out and people leave, I start cleaning. Then the whole process gets repeated once more just for…Continue Reading
Well, I forgot all about posting something yesterday. It’s not like I had anything really exciting to talk about anyways, so it totally slipped my mind. Today I have more interesting stuff to write down, but first, I have to talk about something I was meaning to talk about yesterday. It’s a great idea that I just came up with, although it’s a little late. It’s in honour of my 300th post, and even though this entry is my 303rd, I figure it couldn’t hurt. What is it I have to talk about? Well, it’s a contest! Why? Well, why not?
Basically, it goes like this. Somewhere in amongst the pages of this blog, I have hidden this phrase: “(If you’re reading this, you win!)” It’s written exactly like that, and no, the one in this paragraph doesn’t count. Now, because there’s about nine months’ worth of almost-daily posts, I’m going to make it a bit easier for you all. It’s hidden within the past five months (not including August, so that’s March-July). To your right is the list of archives by month, so if you like, you can get started right now!
But for those of you who don’t just do stupid, needless searching without a reward, let me tell you a bit about that. The winner of this contest (meaning the first person to come back to this entry and post a comment saying that they’ve found it, and where they found it – the URL of it,…Continue Reading
