Ups and Downs

Yesterday was a bit of an up-and-down day. Writing yesterday’s entry put me in sort of a sour mood, and so as I got ready for work, I just offered up a prayer that God would help me set that aside as I worked to not let my bad mood influence my attitude there. I had to check the bus schedules and such to find out which bus went where at what time, and so I found out that the 12:00 bus would get me to the Brantford Mall at about 12:07. I considered taking that one, but since I started work at 12:15, I didn’t want to take the chance that the bus would be slow like it sometimes is. So I took the 11:30 bus instead, and got there with about half an hour to spare before having to work. That was okay. I just went into Wal-mart for a little while and looked in the electronics section. Killing time is really the only time you’ll ever catch me “shopping” without buying anything – unless you count not being able to find what I’m looking for, but that’s different.

At about noon, I walked over to Cineplex and went upstairs to change and such. I had my uniform in a backpack, so I got ready and made myself look amazing before going back downstairs. I still had a little bit of time before I started, so I went in and wrote down my hours for next week. Then…Continue Reading

Sickness, Servanthood, and Such

Here I am with pants and a sweater on, and I’m freezing cold. I woke up today and felt horrible, with a headache, very sore throat, and a stiff neck just thrown in there for good measure. I have to work tonight, so I was hoping that this stuff would go away by then; however, it’s all still here, and there’s only three hours left for it to disappear. I think perhaps I caught a cold or something. I took some Tylenol at lunchtime to see if it would help, but I didn’t even notice a difference. Then, after lunch, I took a little nap for an hour or so; however, I just basically ended up laying there for about 45 minutes and getting about 15 minutes of sleep. It wasn’t much of a help, in other words. I’m just trying to figure out where I picked this up from. Maybe it was from getting thrown in the pool at Steph’s house, but I would have thought that it would have shown up the next day instead of two days later. If it’s not from that, then it must have been something from yesterday. Either one of the Staats kids was carrying something (as little kids often are), or another one of the people in the youth group was. I guess I might have picked it up at McDonalds as well, but that’s not as likely.

With that said, though, I’m trying my best just to keep myself going. I…Continue Reading

Work and, um, Wednesday

Well, I’ve missed two days this time. It completely slipped my mind on Tuesday, mainly because I had absolutely nothing to write about. Nothing interesting happened the night before, and since I was working from 5:45 PM – 12:00 midnight, I couldn’t exactly write anything then. Yesterday I slept in until about 10:30, then got occupied and forgot completely about blogging. Meh. I’ll just quickly talk about the past three days – it shouldn’t take too long. I’ll try and keep it short.

First off, Tuesday night was interesting. Seeing as it was my first shift at Cineplex, I was a little nervous. It was mainly because I barely knew what to do, so I really had no idea what to prepare for. It didn’t turn out to be too bad. Nikki was there showing me what to do for most of the night, and as the night went on it got easier as I found out that my job was fairly routine and monotonous. Basically, I rip tickets before the movies start. And as they start, I have to go around and close the doors and such. Once the movies are in, I basically check all of them every half hour, along with the bathrooms and arcade room. It’s a little hectic when the movies are starting, but once that’s over, there’s suddenly nothing to do really. Then, as the movies get out and people leave, I start cleaning. Then the whole process gets repeated once more just for…Continue Reading

Mildly Interesting (But Not Really)

There’s not much to say today, so I’ll keep this short. After my contemplative exploits of last night, nothing significant happened, so there’s no need to expand on yesterday. Today I had to get up early to drive my mom to work, so that I could have the car for today. Using it, I first went to North Park to pick up my timetable for next year. Right now, for both semesters I have a spare first period. That’s not exactly what I’d like – I’d rather have it last period – but at least it wasn’t in the middle of the day. As it stands now, I don’t have to come into school until 10:30 or something, which is pretty sweet. Unfortunately, the Grade 12 Physics course that I wanted wasn’t on there. That means they either missed it, or I didn’t get into it. So now I have to wait until the end of August in order to try and correct it. That was fairly frustrating, but perhaps I can still pick it up.

After picking up my timetable, I headed over to my bank to do a few things there. First of all, I wanted to change my savings account into a chequing account – the main reason for that would be so I could write cheques to tithe what I earn. I found out, though, that the savings account I have allows me to order cheques anyways, so there’s no point in even switching it. I…Continue Reading

Contests, Cineplex, and Candypants

Well, I forgot all about posting something yesterday. It’s not like I had anything really exciting to talk about anyways, so it totally slipped my mind. Today I have more interesting stuff to write down, but first, I have to talk about something I was meaning to talk about yesterday. It’s a great idea that I just came up with, although it’s a little late. It’s in honour of my 300th post, and even though this entry is my 303rd, I figure it couldn’t hurt. What is it I have to talk about? Well, it’s a contest! Why? Well, why not?

Basically, it goes like this. Somewhere in amongst the pages of this blog, I have hidden this phrase: “(If you’re reading this, you win!)” It’s written exactly like that, and no, the one in this paragraph doesn’t count. Now, because there’s about nine months’ worth of almost-daily posts, I’m going to make it a bit easier for you all. It’s hidden within the past five months (not including August, so that’s March-July). To your right is the list of archives by month, so if you like, you can get started right now!

But for those of you who don’t just do stupid, needless searching without a reward, let me tell you a bit about that. The winner of this contest (meaning the first person to come back to this entry and post a comment saying that they’ve found it, and where they found it – the URL of it,…Continue Reading

The Lesson of Trust

I’m in such a writing mood right now. I feel like I could just sit here and write pages and pages and pages, never stopping even to eat or sleep. This happens every so often, usually when I wake up in a reflective, contemplative mood – like today. I was laying in bed this morning half-awake, and already I had formed two stanzas of a poem in my head. I finished it off in my head during my shower, and then typed it up onto the computer and saved it as soon as I had the chance. And even though I already wrote a quite large entry today in my blog here, I’ve still been itching to just talk about anything and everything.

Let’s put first things first. I called Cineplex Odeon this afternoon, since my mom had left me a note saying they had called yesterday. I left a message in the morning, called again around 12:30 PM or so, and then once more later on, at around 4:30 PM. The third time I called, I actually got ahold of someone. She told me exactly what I was hoping – I got the job there. Mind you, Zeth has told me that it’s not the best job in the world, but I figure if I’ve survived at Quizno’s, and was ready to get a factory job if I needed to, that I can handle it. Any job is a good job at this point, and now I’m intensely thankful.…Continue Reading

Birthdays, Beaches, and Bowling

Yesterday was the birthday party for Melissa. It was a lot of fun, starting off with a trip to Long Point and then getting into some other stuff that I’ll talk about later. But let me begin with the beach, since, well, it’s the first thing that happened. I’m still getting ahead of myself, though, so let me slow down and start from the beginning.

I woke up yesterday at 8:00 AM. My parents had already left for the day, and they had taken both cars – but I already knew they were going to do that. I showered and got dressed, packed my bag for the beach, and then put my earbuds in my ear, turned on my music, and cranked the volume. This was partly because I was in a good mood, but also partly because I was trying to keep myself awake. Then with that, I headed out the door and walked over to the Staats’ house. I debated wearing my shoes to walk over there, but then I decided that it would be too much of a hassle to bring both shoes and sandals. I bring this up because it’s important – my sandals give me blisters, but I decided I’d wear socks with my sandals and hope for the best. It didn’t work too well; even on the ten-minute walk over to their house, I got blisters.

Anyways, I got to the Staats’ house and hung around there for a few minutes until people were…Continue Reading
